Successful delivery is as much about deciding what to do and who should do it as it is about getting it done. In this class we look at all of these elements, providing robust, scalable and repeatable methods to assure successful execution across teams of teams, time and again.
Outline
Metrics, measures and governance: using metrics to create alignment at programme scale. How can you identify real progress and not just activity and busyness? You will learn how to create a programme dashboard, identify how to identify when teams are struggling (and how to help them), and develop useful risk and governance indicators.
Setting goals with OKRs: Objectives and Key Results are a powerful tool for mapping strategy to reality. You will take your strategy and business goals and reframe these as exciting but achievable objectives, with key results defined in terms of observable behaviour change.
Effective estimation and prioritization: to quickly produce estimates that are realistic and defensible without getting stuck in the weeds of detailed breakdowns or task-level estimation. We look at ways to communicate estimates and risks to different audiences, agree on priorities, and get the buy-in and commitment you need without engaging in governance theatre.
Large-scale team planning: using Demand-Led Planning. We will not be carrying out a full planning session in the class! But you will get a solid foundation in how to run an effective session. As well as facilitating events on the day, we look at what needs to happen in advance to give yourself the greatest chance of success and how you should follow up the session to help the teams
